You already know what a miracle our new home felt like to us last year. Well, the good stuff didn't stop there! Imagine my utter excitement when the fun surprises just kept rolling! First, let me say that while we were waiting to get into our house, we did weekly and sometimes daily (slightly stalkerish) drive-bys. We were staying 2 minutes away and for some reason we liked torturing ourselves. And hey, our mail was already forwarded and we had to keep picking it up, right? The former owners had already moved out by then, and during one of those first drive-bys, we were psyched to see that they had left the porch swing and also the hammock in the backyard. Score!
We were excited enough about that, but there was more. After we moved in, we found this fantastic green wheelbarrow behind the garage. We haven't used it much yet other than for removing weeds, but oh the decor possibilities!
This vintage print tray was still hanging on the wall. I couldn't believe they left it, so I went so far as to contact the former owners and ask if they had left it by mistake. They said, nope, it's all yours! I used it to display a bunch of mini bottle brush trees last Christmas. This is the only picture I have of the original wood.
Don't hate me, but I painted it. If you're familiar with my Instagram, you know I love light backdrops with pops of color. So with the plans I have for this tray, it had to be white. Stay tuned for more on that another time because this lonely tray is up on the wall, just waiting for me to finish out my idea for this space.
Another item left here was this adorable cabinet in the pantry! I remember seeing it when we first looked at the house and wishing it would actually come with the house. The first day we were allowed in, I saw it sitting there in the pantry and my heart swelled!
It has a wood base, and an enamel top. It's completely retro and I'm obsessed.
Back to the garage...We found a gigantic vintage toolbox sitting in the back of the garage. Mark wasn't sure if I'd want it and I'm pretty sure I snatched it up, said oh yeah, and marched it right into the house. He wouldn't know that I've been in the market for a vintage toolbox for years, but had just never found the right size or the right price. This one is a tad huge, but for free, it's perfect!
Last Christmas I filled it with greens and lights and displayed it on the porch.
Here is what it looks like right now, and this is also your sneak peek into a Fall Home Tour that will be headed this way around mid-September. The possibilities for this ginormous toolbox are endless!
And last but not least. About a week after we moved in, Mark and Jake were out cleaning and organizing the garage when Jake came running into the house yelling for me. He was yelling that I needed to come see what they found. From up in the rafters, they pulled down a vintage sled! My kid knows me and knew I'd be psyched. I already have my uncle's old vintage sled, but I had painted it white about 5 years ago when I was going through my neutrals phase. I still love that sled all white and rustic, but I was happy to have another that will stay in it's original form.
Not only did we get this house we love, but it had all these bonuses inside waiting for us! (And they were 100 times better than the reindeer lawn ornament and red microwave we found in the basement of our first house.) So what about you? What's the weirdest or coolest thing you've found after moving into a house?
