Do you love a good Before & After? I'm obsessed with them! It's sure fire clickbait for me if I'm scrolling through anything online and see a "before" teaser. Through the last year, we've finished repainting our entire main floor, and since I didn't share it with you in real time, I'll be sharing our finished rooms in the order we got them done.
So today is Living Room Day! We used semi-gloss Behr Marquee Ultra Pure White right out of the can for most of the trim. But since the mantel area has so much surface space, we used satin, not semi-gloss. I didn't want the mantel wood to have that shiny sheen that the semi-gloss gives. And since it's not a high traffic area like doorways and windows tend to be, I knew it didn't need the tough protective layer that semi-gloss gives.
The wall color is Silver Drop by Behr, and we used Behr Marquee in satin. We didn't prime the walls, since they were a light yellow, and Behr Marquee is a paint and primer in one.
You might be wondering about the mirror built into the mantel. I painted right over that sucker! I used the same primer we used for the wood trim and it needed quite a few coats of paint, just like the wood, but I love the results. I like that whatever décor I throw up there pops off of the white backdrop of that painted mirror!
And here's the other side of the room. I love the staircase, and I still have plans for it, but for now, I'm happy with it as is.
We kept the curtain rods that were already here, but added our own curtains from our old house. Eventually I want to get longer panels that actually touch the floor.
This room is mostly done, but down the road we'll definitely be replacing the carpet and the light fixture. Even though they both make me crazy sometimes, just having the room painted has made such a world of difference, I can live with the other stuff for a good while.
Since Mark was helping out with this room, I knew we'd need to put one of his favorite shows on to keep us entertained while we worked, so naturally, it was The Office all the way! No surprise there. I still remember it was the Pretzel Day episode playing while he was hanging these old blueberry crates.
Since we did most of the living room and dining room together, the dining room before and after will be coming up soon, so stay tuned!
